Tutorials at AOW 2011
At Art.on.Wires we arrange a broad spectrum of tutorials where you can learn how to use artistic software toolkits, how to create your own hardware gadets and how to use media technology in performing arts. Dance in networked interactive environments gains momentum and we are particularly proud that we can present a workshop on this topic at Art.on.Wires. With a direct conection between UC Berkeley and Oslo and experienced dancers on both sides the workshop will be one of the experimental highlights of the festival. Urban Microval is a format of urban public intervention with the objective to bring out aspects of media art from conventional places such as museums, offspaces, labs, etc. and present them directly within the urban environment through workshops and installations. The theme of the Microval at Art.on.Wires is “Insecure Territories”: Public space does not end at the borders of visible, perceptible reality but extends into the invisible. The Microsoft Kinect is a gaming tool with the potential to become a new creative tool. We will discuss what the possibilities are for artists and developers, the technology behind, including its possibilities and limitations, and we provide an overview of what has been done with the Kinect up until now. Circuit Bending means creating new musical instruments out of old and used toys, electronics gadgets and other electronic garbage you find at home or elsewhere. With simple tricks and tweaks you will be able to create amazing new toys that can create sounds they were not intended to by their original designer. This workshop is specifically made for children.
